Flutes at the Fort is situated on the picturesque green slope at the Hill Street end of Fort Canning Park. Housed in a beautiful black and white bungalow which was built in 1908, it served as the old Fire Chiefs’ home. The Central Fire Station is clearly visible from the veranda and it isn’t hard to imagine how the Fire Chiefs of old stayed operationally ready all the time. A jewel in a perfect setting, Flutes at the Fort has a nostalgic natural beauty and combined with a warm, congenial ambience, this treasure charms even the most discerning.

Firstly, this place provides free of charge valet parking which is an extra service to compliment about!

We ordered their cranberry juice.


The complimentary sourdough bread. this one is pretty well done. It is served warm with the crust lightly crackling and the interior soft and fluffy.

The grilled king prawn was very fresh and sweet.

A typically fusion dish is the Grilled Black Cod marinated in Japanese teriyaki sauce with side accompaniments of roasted butternut pumpkin cubes with wilted tatsoi leaves. Skilfully grilled, the fish could easily be sliced, its freshness apparent.

The medium rare sirloin steak was very juicy.

Because it was my birthday, they replaced the standard dessert in the set with a wonderfully decorated showcase with birthday wishes and candle.

The warm Pur - Caraibe Chocolate Fondant was slightly different from the usual renditions offered by other places. There wa s no molten chocolate in the centre to ooze out when I broke open the shell. Instead, molten chocolate was generously poured over the entire cake and allowed to cool, resulting in a gleaming black chocolate coated cake.

Overall, I was pretty satisfied. It's a little pricey, but worth it to splurge on once in a while.

Excellent food, excellent ambience, excellent companion.
